June 24, 2013
The Strikers U13 Boys went undefeated at the State Cup on the back of some strong defending and dangerous attacking. The boys started slow against a good Bozeman side in their first game but finished strong to win 3-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Cameron Talbott, and then found their finishing touch to beat Butte 7-0 in game two. The semifinal against Great Falls saw another strong second half lead to a 3-1 victory. “The final was against Helena, and we had a nervy start which saw Helena have a goal called back,” said coach Keane Hamilton. “But two great goals from Hunter Martell settled our nerves and opened the gates to a 5-1 victory.”

Facing a Bozeman Blitzz squad that had dominated proceedings in their Saturday afternoon game, the Strikers U12 Girls Black team put on a show to edge the Blitzz 2-1 in the “White” division championship. Zoe Baggerly scored a goal and showed stellar goalkeeping, while Brittany Burman perfectly placed the game winner for the Strikers. “The final game was a battle royale and every player stepped up to meet the challenge,” said coach Winter Sanor. “Overall, it was a wonderful chance for this team to grow and learn with the added benefit of having some great success.” Four goals from Claire Becker and another from Brittany Burman in the semis and critical goals from Jayden McDonald and Ashley McElmurry on the opening day were enough to see the Strikers through to the final.
